Zeemote, Nokia to partner in Germany

Zeemote’s biz dev team is working round the clock for the summer. Following the announcement that they will partner with Sony Ericsson, the maker of the award-winning Zeemote JS1 Controller announced a deal with Nokia in Germany. Under the terms of the agreement, the Finnish giant will advertise the Zeemote JS1 Controller in its German on and offline media channels, and bundle the gaming controller with some of its phones. We’re not sure which phones are involved at this stage, but something tells me the JS1 Controller will perfectly sing along N-Gage enabled devices.

Finally before I let you go, if you happen to visit Germany in the coming days, you can see the Zeemote JS1 in action at Games Convention 2008 in Leipzig, from 20th to 24th August of this year…

iPhone Nike+ runMarathon season is upon us. We’re seeing more marathons, for all imaginable causes, opening up registration for later this year. And you know what that means - time to dust off your Nike+ gear!

The Nike+ sensor allows runners to track their runs, via a sensor embedded in compatible Nike running shoes, on their iPod Nanos. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting on the Nike+ application for our iPhone Nike+ application screenshotsiPhones and iPhone 3Gs.

Last we heard, Apple was working with Nike to bring the Nike+ experience to the iPhone and iPhone 3G. Today we’re seeing what is reported to be the first ever screenshots of the iPhone Nike+ application. The signal receiver that communicates with the in-shoe sensor is already compatible with the iPhone’s dock connector, but users are going to need an iPhone application to take advantage of the hardware.

The new iPhone Nike+ app is expected to allow you to update your online running log/run-tracker in real-time. There’s even a mapping feature shown in the screenshots that has us excited to go explore our neighborhood.

Now, where did I put that Nike+ run sensor?

Japanese iPhone 3G magazines for your reading pleasure

Posted by Will on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 6:24 pm under Into iPhone, iPhone, Apple

At least that’s what we can infer from the new Japanese magazines dedicated to the barely month-old iPhone 3G. There are undoubtedly a good number of Japanese feature-phone fans that just can’t justify leaving behind their NFC- and mobile TV-enabled devices for the iPhone 3G. But, with no less than four different iPhone 3G magazines gracing Japanese newsstands, it’s clear that there’s a healthy iPhone 3G market in japan.

iphone 3g magazines in japan

For comparison, the US - one of the largest iPhone 3G markets -  doesn’t have a single magazine dedicated to the iPhone 3G. Sure, there are Mac publications that cover the iPhone 3G, but those print publications cover much more in the Apple-world than just the second-generation handset.

So, when are the iPhone 3G magazines going to hit the US? Um, do online publications count?

Nokia announces new Arte 8800 handset - Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte

Posted by Will on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 5:27 pm under Nokia, Devices, Symbian, Announcements

Nokia 8800 Carbon ArteIn the automotive world, carbon-fiber design- and structural-elements epitomize the perfect blend of incredible strength and lightweight. Carbon fiber is stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum, making it perfect for high-end automotive applications (not to mention its extensive use in aerospace applications). But, when we’re talking about carbon-fiber (CF) in the mobile world, we’re limited to merely aesthetic points of view. When your ride is decked out in CF, from hood to trunk, you might want your mobile phone to match. If your ride is bedazzled with diamonds, you might want a diamond-encrusted Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte.

To that end, Nokia has announced its newest Nokia 8800 Arte variant - the Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte. Like its black-metal and Sapphire siblings, the Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte represents Nokia’s highest echelon of fashionable handsets that make a bold statement. In addition to titanium, polished glass, and stainless steel accents, the Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte adds CF panels on the front and back of the device. Sure, there’s no real use for the high-strength, low-weight carbon fibers on a cellphone, but the 8800 Arte is all about style - practicality be damned.

The Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte  features a bumped-up 4GB of on-board storage to complement the 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, full HTML browser, and crisp OLED display - basically the same feature-set that the we see in the rest of the Nokia 8800 Arte lineup, with the exception of increased internal storage.

Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte

The Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte should go on sale before the end of September for $1,600 (~€1,100) as a tri-band (900/1800/1900Mhz) European 3G (2100Mhz) handset, so start saving your spare change!

FCC reveals Motorola-made JayZ headphones

Don’t know about you, but lately I like Motorola’s accessories more than their phones. Now the struggling American handset maker is partnering with Jay-Z to release the branded Bluetooth headphones. We’re not sure how exactly the famous rapper helped Moto in making of this headset, but we know it looks kinda weird on FCC pages. These are A2DP stereo Bluetooth compatible headphones and we’re not sure when we’ll see them officially announced. We are sure, though, Motorola won’t be quiet once all the paperwork is done and the headset is ready for the prime time…

Video: Telus’ HTC Touch Diamond gets a hands-on treatment

Posted by Dusan on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 2:36 am under Telus, HTC, Windows Mobile, Devices

MobileSyrup’s Rob managed to get his lucky hands on Telus’ HTC Touch Diamond. Needless to say, he loves the Windows Mobile smartphone, even though he would prefer the European version of the device with shapes like a diamond on the back. However, I don’t see that as a big minus, if that’s a minus at all.

Anyway, MobileSyrup’s 7-minute long video starts now. Enjoy it. And don’t forget, you can grab the HTC Touch Diamond from Telus from CA$149.99 with a three-year contract, CA$349.99 on a 2-year contract, or for CA$399.99 on a 1-year contract. Finally, for those that don’t like binding themselves with any kinds of agreements, the device is available for CA$449.99 sans any contracts signed… And now the video.
